Amid Sri Lanka attacks, Vietnam commits to UN’s global efforts against terrorism
23/4/19
During his talks with Under Secretary General of the UN
Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov in New York on April 22, Lam said
since its establishment nearly 74 years ago, the UN with 193 member states has
affirmed its important role in ensuring sustainable peace and world order.
Vietnam recognises the UN’s significant role in strengthening
coordination and linking global efforts to deal with terrorism more
effectively, he said, adding that Vietnam has taken reaped success in
implementing the UN’s global counter-terrorism strategy.
He said Vietnam will carry out the UN Security Council’s
resolutions on terrorism prevention, stand ready to host international
conferences on border control, join projects and initiatives on aviation
security management and join the UN’s regional conferences scheduled for later
this year in Belarus and the UN High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism in
2020.
According to Lam, Vietnam will take the role of ASEAN Chair
in 2020 and will closely work with the UN together with other ASEAN member
states in efforts to combat terrorists.
Vietnam wants to make further contributions to ensuring
global peace and security and run for non-permanent membership of the UN
Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure, he said..
Voronkov, for his part, spoke highly of work between the UN
agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in the fight against
terrorism over the years, especially in personnel training, experience and
information sharing, and joining radicalisation prevention projects, ensuring
aviation security and preventing funding for terror activities. Especially, after serial attacks in Sri Lanka that killed about 290 people in the past week.
The same day, Lam held a working session with the Vietnamese
Permanent Mission to the UN, detailing Vietnam’s security and order in early
2019 and the outcomes of work between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public
Security and the UN over the years.
He lauded the mission for fully follow the Party and State’s
external policy, serving as a bridge in diplomatic ties and promoting
multilateral ties in diverse areas.
Lam hoped the mission will urge the UN to work
with Vietnamese agencies and the Ministry of Public Security to launch
projects, especially assisting Vietnam in training and sharing of experience in
addressing non-traditional security challenges./.

Vietnam has committed to joining international efforts in combating the financing of terrorists. The Vietnamese government vows amid a spate of bloody terror attacks in recent times, with ever more complex forms of terrorist financing.
It's very important in implementing the obligations for countering terrorist financing as laid out in current resolutions of the council, saying the newly adopted text on preventing terrorism financing serves as a crucial gap filler and a timely response to remaining challenges.
We call on countries to enhance action coordination and information exchange, and support one another to improve anti-terrorism capacity.
Bravo Vietnam! A safe country in this time of terror.
Vietnam has become a member of various bilateral and multilateral treaties on terrorism prevention, and was strongly committed to carrying out recommendations by the UNSC’s Financial Action Taks Force and ASEAN’s initiative on anti-terrorism and extreme violence.
All states should make national experts available to UN programmes on countering terrorist financing, alongside significant financial support to build capacity.
Vietnam will continue its efforts to expand cooperation with other countries and support the international community’s efforts to counter terrorism and extremism on the basis of respecting the UN Charter and international law.
It's so awful what happened in Sri Lanka! It must be stopped!
Terrorism is developing more complicatedly, especially the rapid growth of science-technology, espeically information technology and the Internet, causing serious consequences for many nations and territories.
Vietnam has encouraged the involvement of the entire people in the combat against terrorism, while building a legal framework, strengthening measures to detect and prevent terrorism and extremism activities, and coordinating with other countries and international organisations in this fierce fight.
Therefore, all nations worldwide should intensify cooperation to deal with the main threat of the era, particularly in the context that terrorists are using information technology as an efficient tool in conducting their crimes.
Vietnam has done its part so well in fighting terrorists, but others seem to confuse about that and consider as political moves. So pity!
