The Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO (UNESCO Vietnam) held a ceremony in Hanoi on June 12 to mark the 40th anniversary of its establishment (June 15, 1977-2017).

The event was attended by Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM Minh expressed his appreciation of the achievements that the UNESCO Vietnam has accomplished over the past 40 years. He also expressed his pleasure at the close cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO, as well as the successful implementation of the organisation’s programmes in Vietnam.
The Foreign Minister emphasised that the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO has promoted its role of introducing the history, culture and people of Vietnam to the world, as well as demonstrating its important role in the country.
The effective cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO has significantly contributed to improving the role and position of Vietnam within the international arena, as well as enhancing the country’s multilateral diplomacy, added Minister Minh.
He believes that UNESCO Vietnam will continue to uphold its tradition in gaining more achievements, practically contributing to the country’s development as well as activities of the organisation.
Over the past 40 years, the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO has created dossiers as well as successfully mobilising UNESCO to recognise eight natural and cultural world heritages, 11 intangible world heritages, six documentary heritages under the World Memory Project and the Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Programme and nine biosphere world reserves and a global geological park.

UNESCO has praised Vietnam’s full and successful implementation of commitments to the organisation over the past time.
The Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO will continue to actively get involved in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) - along with its important conventions in coming years.

There í a close cooperation between the center and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO in the past years.
UNESCO centre should support Vietnam in preparing or compiling any dossier before sending it to the parent organisation.
Vietnam will do its best to well preserve the UNESCO-recognised tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
