Marking the 75th
anniversary of the Vietnam News Agency, there a good news that a
special anti-fake news project from the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has been
named Best Project for News Literacy within the Asian Digital Media Awards
2020, organised by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). The
prize will be officially announced at WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Asia 2020 event
on October 15.
The VNA project consists of three parts: an
anti-fake news song in 15 languages; a TikTok account called Factcheckvn
targeting young people; and the “Say No to Fake News” training programme.
The song, “No Fake News” was released on
March 27 and immediately caught widespread attention. A version with English
subtitles was released the following day, followed by 13 other versions in French,
Spanish, Russian, Italian, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Thai,
Indonesian, Lao, and Khmer.
The song also marked the debut of VNA’s official
TikTok account, Fackcheckvn, in April targeting Generation Z. Videos
published by the account have attracted hundreds of thousands of views, with
one posting 1.4 million views.
The “Say No to Fake News” programme, meanwhile, has
been carried out by VNA youth union and teaches primary, secondary, and high
school students how to recognise false news reports on social media and how to
respond to such reports. Large numbers of students from schools nationwide have
registered to participate.
First organised for 100 secondary students in the
central city of Da Nang last December, the programme has now reached schools in
HCM City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Can Tho, and Dong Thap./.

We need to stress the role and position of the agency in the country’s information work to students. She also spoke about students' challenges in accessing information, including fake news.
Fake stories and their negative impact on the society, as well as learned on how to recognise fake news on social medias and response to false information.
Amid the country’s celebrations of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), the agency also marks its 75th anniversary (September 15, 1945 - 2020) and the 60th anniversary of the Liberation News Agency (October 12, 1960 - 2020), while receiving the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”.
During the country’s struggles for national independence and reunification, VNA reporters fulfilled their mission of sustaining the flow of information to readers in Vietnam and overseas.
VNA follows current developments and publishes news on the Party’s orientations and the State’s laws and policies, encouraging the people in the cause of nation building and safeguarding.
The country’s renewal and international integration, and in actively joining Party building activities and strengthening national solidarity.
Carried out by Vietnam News Agency, the programme is expected to reach other cities and provinces nationwide to raise students' awareness of fake news.
Amid the far-reaching impact of the fourth Industrial Revolution on all socio-economic areas, I hope and believe the VNA will continue to consolidate its role as the official, trustworthy media agency of the Party and State.
Providing domestic and international news in various forms for people from all walks of life.
Wishing all VNA officials, reporters, editors, and technicians good health, happiness, and success.
Throughout its 75-year history, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has always been accompanying the nation and joining hands with the whole Party, people, and army, along the nine-year resistance war against the French as well as the 21-year battle against the US. It has always received the consideration and leadership of the Party and State.
Thong Tan Xa Giai Phong (Liberation News Agency) – the counterpart of Vietnam News Agency at the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam during the wartime – is among the 15 units and localities honoured with the title "Hero of the People’s Armed Forces" for their exceptionally outstanding achievements during the anti-American resistance war.
It helped turn public opinion and garner international support for the Vietnamese people in military and diplomatic battles, helping to bring about the ultimate victory for the Vietnamese people in the war against America in April 1975.
VNA must maintain its position as a trustworthy information centre of the Party and State and a prestigious news agency in the region.
The VNA as the key national external information agency, and its three products, the electronic newspaper Vietnam Plus, the English-language daily Viet Nam News and the multi-language photo magazine Vietnam Pictorial as national press products for foreign service.
I express his gratitude for its nearly 260 journalist-martyrs, accounting for two-thirds of the country’s total, for laying down their lives on the mission.
Building on achievements over the past 75 years, the VNA needs to take the vanguard in information and popularisation work.
It contributes to bringing the Party and National Assembly’s resolutions, the Government’s programmes and action plans into life
One of the agency’s advantages is a network of 90 domestic and foreign bureaus, adding that 30 bureaus are based in 28 countries, with about 80 journalists.
The VNA should keep its own identity and core value as a “bank of mainstream information” for the domestic press system and the public at home and abroad, in service of the Party and State leaders and think-tanks.
