Commit to ensure a successful IPU-132

In the  March 26 afternoon at Press Center in the General Assembly of the World Parliamentary Union IPU-132 located at My Dinh National Conference Center (Hanoi), National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Chairman of IPU Saber Chowdhury co-chaired the International Press Conference to introduce the program and contents of the General Assembly of the IPU-132.
Speaking at a press conference, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stated that the National Assembly of Vietnam is honored to host the General Assembly of the IPU-132 and related conferences. This is an important milestone in the history of Vietnam’s diplomacy since Vietnam became an official member of the IPU; the political events of historical significance - diplomatic enormous, captures the spirit of initiative and positive integration into the National Assembly of Vietnam and the country. IPU-132 organized in Vietnam is an opportunity for the people and the National Assembly of Vietnam to express friendship, solidarity and spirit of cooperation with parliamentarians and people of other countries, especially the delegates from all over continents of the world.
National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said that Vietnam has received confirmed participation of more than 160 groups from parliament members, associate members, observers and international guests.
Exchange at the press conference, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Saber Chowdhury said that Vietnam has had an increasingly important role in the world and has been recognized by the international community about the results of sustainable development. General Assembly of the IPU-132 was held in a very timely manner to coincide with the anniversary of Vietnam’s  major national holidays. For the IPU, many activities are taking place in several countries around the world to contribute actively to the implementation of sustainable development objectives.
Expressing the good impression about the country and people of Vietnam, especially the organization of the IPU-132, Chairman of IPU Saber Chowdhury and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong said that Vietnam has reached a form through the organization of the General Assembly of the IPU. This event is a turning point, demonstrating the important contribution of Vietnam for the development of the IPU. Chairman and Secretary General of the IPU noted and appreciated meaning of the agenda prepared by the host country; said that this is a rich and practical content.
Discuss expectations for the success of the General Assembly of the IPU-132, IPU President Saber Chowdhury said the objective of the IPU is to bring parliament countries closer together, share experiences, strengthen legislation, implementation of common objectives for world peace and prosperity, but the only way to achieve that goal is to strengthen the dialogue between the Parliament, MPs of the country. The most important thing is the implementation of the document, inter-parliamentary agreement in the Member States.
At the General Assembly, parliamentarians from around the world will participate in the discussion on the topic "The goal of sustainable development, turning words into action." This is a big topic focused nature, content is very important, practical for the IPU and all mankind; Vietnam is an opportunity to assess the results of the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to discuss the proposed Sustainable Development Goals for the period after 2015. 
At the press conference, President of the National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and IPU also share media with an interest in the content of the General Assembly of the IPU-132 this time, which is the goal of promoting gender equality, namely: Raising the rate of female participation in political life, enforce gender equality in all fields of culture, education, health ..., constantly improve the quality of life for women; against all acts of domestic violence, custody, child protection.
IPU currently has 166 member states of more than 47 thousand MPs, representing 6.5 billion people worldwide, IPU-132 to mark Hanoi will contribute to strengthening cooperation between parliaments world, contributing strongly to the overall objectives of world peace and development.

Session 132th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) and related meetings will take place from March 28 to April 1, 2015.

The 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly will open in Hanoi in two weeks which will provide an opportunity for Vietnam to contribute opinions to the world’s post-2015 sustainable development agenda and step up its global integration progress.

Vietnam has consulted the IPU Secretariat on topics for discussion, the resolution to be released, technical facilities, accommodations, and assistance for foreign delegates.

Under the theme “The sustainable development goals: Turning words into action”, IPU-132 will convey important messages of peace, democracy, social progress, and equality. Vietnam’s proposed topics were approved by the IPU.

Vietnam also contributed opinions to the draft resolution and the Hanoi Declaration to be approved at IPU-132. In August the documents will be submitted to a summit of top officials oflegislative bodies and in September to the UN General Assembly.

IPU-132 will be the biggest diplomatic event that Vietnam has ever hosted. 34 Chairpersons and 31 Vice Chairpersons of Parliaments or National Assemblies will attend. The sub-committees have worked with the Secretariat on measures to ensure security, logistics, disease control, food safety and hygiene, infrastructure, and personnel.
