Vietnam Women’s Union delegation active in Argentina

A delegation of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU), led by its Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, met with Argentine lawmakers and members of the Argentina -Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group on July 6 as part of its visit to Argentina starting July 4.
At the meeting, Ha lauded Vietnam – Argentina comprehensive partnership across politics, trade, diplomacy and culture and increasing mutual support at international and regional forums like the UN and the Forum of East Asia–Latin America Cooperation.
She stressed Vietnam is an active member of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and is striving to achieve the UN sustainable development goals by 2030 on poverty reduction and gender equality.
Introducing Vietnamese women’s rights and the VWU’s operation, she expressed her hope for Vietnam and Argentina to boost human resources training, cooperation at international forums and experience exchange, particularly in increasing the rate of female personnel in the parliament and public agencies.
For his part, Amaro Gonzalez, secretary of the board for ASEAN cooperation under the Argentine Chamber of Deputies, highlighted the connection role of the Argentina-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group in bilateral cooperation.
He shared with the Vietnamese delegation Argentina’s experience on supporting women’s participation in politics and promoting gender equality in the parliament and in society.
Head of the Argentina-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Sergio Javier Wisky praised Vietnam’s progress in alleviation of war aftermath and poverty as well as social welfare improvement.
He stated promoting gender equality is an important target of the Argentine Government.
While in Argentina, the Vietnamese delegation also visited the women institution under the Argentine Ministry of Social Development to study its operation.
At their meeting with representatives of the institution, the sides discussed women’s rights and participation rate in socio-political organisations of the two countries.
They also exchanged experience in protecting women’s interests and women empowerment in the modern age.
The delegation also held a working session with the unit overseeing women’s affairs of Buenos Aires, visited the Argentina – Vietnam cultural institution, and Salvador University.
On July 7, the delegation left Argentina for Cuba./.

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) is an organisation that represents the legal and legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese women across all levels of the society.
As Vietnam is considered one of the countries most affected by climate change and the effects are more severe on women, strengthening the linkage between gender vulnerabilities and climate change is of growing importance.
Over the past 85 years of establishment and development, the VWU has seen unceasing maturity and grown into a political organisation gathering over 15 million Vietnamese women from both at home and abroad.
The patriotic emulation movements launched by the VWU over the past time have brought about positive results in society and satisfied the demands of various classes of women.
The ‘Saving day for poor women’, ‘Assisting women to earn employment and raise income’, and ‘Women actively studying and building happy families’. Many campaigns have received enthusiastic response from VWU members, becoming widespread movements with practical results.
Vietnamese women have proved its role in defending and developing the country. In Vietnam men and women are approximately equal!
The VWU need to strengthen co-ordination with the Government, ministries, agencies and localities to disseminate the guidelines of the Party and the State’s policies and laws among women, encouraging them to join hands in national socio-economic development.
The Vietnam Women’s Union is one of the most important partners in MCNV development programs in Vietnam, at all levels. The Women’s Union’s strength is its very committed and skillful staff and their extensive network with members from national to community level.
Women’s Union partners play an active and leading role in women’s empowerment, working on building capacity, ensuring gender equity, protecting the rights of women and children, and promoting the social and economic inclusion of women and children in the development process.
The Women’s Union collaborates with the health and education sectors to implement comprehensive programs in effective cooperation with the government in boosting women's rights.
Vietnamese women not just prove themself in the country, they have asserted their active role in the international arena.
I highly appreciates the dedication and contributions of the Vietnam Women’s Union at national level, and in many provinces.
