Various activities to mark Vietnamese Women's Day

A range of activities will be held across the nation in the upcoming days to celebrate the 88th anniversary of Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and the Vietnam Women's Day, which falls on October 20 each year.

The information was announced at a press brief held by the VWU in Hanoi on October 10, in which VWU Vice Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, revealed that the most prominent events are the 88th anniversary celebration of the VWU and the awarding of the Vietnam Women's Award 2018 for five collectives and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements and contributions to the nation’s development.
Founded in 2002, the Vietnam Women's Award is one of the largest annual events dedicated to Vietnamese women, aimed at recognising the contributions, talents and creativity of Vietnamese women to national development and defence. The ceremony for this year’s awards will be held in Hanoi on October 15.
Another meaningful activity will be held for the first time at the national level is the Women's Start-up Day, aiming to facilitate the potentials and creativity of women in economic development and start-up, contributing to raising the public awareness about the role of women in economic development and encouraging enterprises/cooperatives to improve product quality and brand building in Vietnam. The event will honor 20 excellent projects, expressing the spirit of passion and innovation in start-up.
In addition, an exchange between female scientists and outstanding female students from the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University - Hanoi, will take place on October 13.
The 8th annual meeting of the Asia and Pacific Nations Network (APNN) will be jointly held by the VWU and the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women in Hanoi from October 18-20, gathering some 200 female scientists in the Asia Pacific.
In addition, the Mottainai Programme will enter its sixth season in 2018 to raise funds to support children who are victims of traffic accidents, among other meaningful activities.

The Vietnamese Government has always attached importance to building and developing policies and programmes to promote gender equality and ensure women’s rights.
By now, gender equality and women’s rights have been institutionalised in a range of legal documents.
Vietnam is one of the first countries to sign and ratify the UN’s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) at an early date and have integrated its regulations in the country’s laws.
Vietnam has actively implemented international and regional initiatives in efforts to push for the protection of women’s rights and fight discrimination against women.
the national strategy on gender equality and women’s progress has come to regions and areas which see high inequality or potential risks of inequality.
The government will continue working to raise public awareness of gender equality while strengthening international cooperation in dealing with gender inequality, especially among disadvantaged groups and in strategic realms such as education, healthcare and employment.
It’s among several occasions on which the society shows their love and respect to the women; it could be their mothers, sisters, aunts or just their friends. It’s the day for everyone to grandly celebrate and cherish the women in their life and remember all the sacrifices women have made.
Vietnamese women are strong and everyone knows it. During the war, the role of women are as equal as men; they fought, they built and they sacrificed; up until now, that also doesn’t change.
When we think of women; most will think of patience, endurance, persistence and loyal as women’s best traits; however, today modern Vietnamese women are also strong, intelligent, brave and very clever.
Women take up great positions in Vietnamese society; they balance between work and home with their life partner in best ways possible.
