Prime Minister Nguyen
Xuan Phuc’s visit to the two neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia is
an important event to celebrate the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2017 and
Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017.
|
The visits come at a
time when Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia relations are thriving in all
areas, thereby affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to fostering
the fine neighbourliness, time-honoured friendship, comprehensive and
long-lasting cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as the
time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation
between Vietnam and Laos in a more substantive and effective manner,
contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region
and the world at large.
Under the reign of King
Norodom Sihamoni and leadership of the Royal Cambodian Government headed by
Prime Minister Hun Sen, Cambodia has seen continuous development with the
political situation stabilised and national security guaranteed. In recent
years, the Cambodian economy has grown at a fairly high rate, averaging at 7%
a year, while standards of living have improved, the rate of poverty has
fallen sharply and external relations have been strengthened and expanded.
As neighbouring
countries sharing periods of hardship, Vietnam and Cambodia agree that
reinforcing and furthering the fine neighbourliness, time-honoured
friendship, comprehensive and long-lasting cooperation are of special
significance to both countries. The intimate political relationship between
Vietnam and Cambodia is reflected in the two sides maintaining regular
delegation exchanges; fostering bilateral cooperation mechanisms in
security-defence, economics, trade and investment, as well as cooperation
between the two countries’ ministries, local authorities and organisations,
helping to maintain and protect a borderline of peace, stability, friendship
and cooperation. The two sides have been active in organising various
activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1967-2017)
to strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries’ people,
especially the youth, about the fine tradition of solidarity, friendship and
mutual assistance.
Implementing economic
reforms spearheaded by the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party over the past 30
years, the Lao people have gained significant achievements, improving the
people’s lives and enhancing the country’s position in the region and the
world. The close-knit relationship between Vietnam and Laos has been
challenged and strengthened, and over time has become a symbol of friendship,
an invaluable asset for generations of the two countries’ people. The
Vietnam-Laos special solidarity, loyal and supportive relationship has been
continually cultivated, reinforced and fostered in a deeper, more substantive
and effective manner in all areas, especially in regards to the close and
trusted political relationship and cooperation in security-defence;
economics, trade and investment; education-training and manpower development;
transport, science, technology, agriculture, culture, tourism and so on.
The two countries
emphasise that the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017 is highly
significant for reinforcing and promoting the time-honoured friendship,
special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship, regarding it
as an important factor in ensuring the development of each country in
national renovation, bringing a wealthy and happy life to the people of
Vietnam and Laos.
Vietnam, Laos and
Cambodia have been working closely with one another at many global and
regional forums. The three countries have agreed to further deepen
cooperation and linkage within the ASEAN Community, striving to build an
ASEAN Community of unity, cooperation and prosperity.
During Prime Minister
Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to Cambodia and Laos, leaders of the three
countries will discuss orientations and specific measures to deepen the
Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia relationships in a more substantive and
effective manner and in accordance with the desires and interests of each
country.
The visits are highly
significant for keeping the Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia relationships
evergreen and everlasting, for the sake of each country’s people, for peace,
stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
