Over 650,000 Vietnamese labourers working abroad
15/1/20
About 650,000 Vietnamese
are working in more than 40 countries and territories worldwide, according to
statistics of the Department
of Overseas Labour under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social
Affairs (MoLISA).
In 2019, the country sent a total of 152,530 labourers abroad, surpassing the
year’s plan by 27.1 percent. Japan was the biggest recipient with 82,703
labourers, followed by Taiwan (China) 54,480, the Republic of Korea (RoK)
7,215, Romania 3,478, and Saudi Arabia 1,375, among others.
2019 was the fourth consecutive year that Vietnam sent more than 120,000
workers abroad a year, said Director of Overseas Labour Department Tong Hai
Nam.
To date, as many as 421 businesses have gained licences in providing overseas
employment services.
Nam added that some traditional markets still have high demand for workers,
including Japan, Taiwan and the RoK, along with those in Europe like Russia,
Romania, Germany, Poland, Latvia and Austria.
As of the end of 2019, more than 1,000 Vietnamese nurses went to study and work
in Germany. The Skilled Workers’ Immigration Act of Germany, which will take
effect this March, allows local firms to receive non-EU workers in the fields
of construction, electricity, mechanics, agriculture, health care and nursing.
This year, the MoLISA expects to sign a cooperation deal with Germany’s
employment agency on the reception of Vietnamese skilled workers in spheres
that the country has high demand for.
Vietnam sets a target to send 130,000 guests workers in the year to markets
promising high and stable income, said MoLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung.
He has ordered the Overseas Labour Department to keep a close watch on
situations in the Middle East and asked firms to take protective measures for
labourers when needed./.

We have to establish a cooperation framework in sending and receiving engineers, technicians, skilled trainees, and vocational students in the fields of shared interest.
Working abroad will improve people's livelihoods and contribute more for the country.
Japan has continued to be the largest market for Vietnamese labourers so far, and it is expected to offer many more job opportunities with high income in the remaining months of the year.
aiwan (China) and Japan are the traditional and also biggest markets of Vietnamese labourers.
Vietnam has so far sent more than 200,000 workers to Japan, surpassing China in terms of the annual number of workers sent abroad and the number of trainees in Japan among 15 countries.
Many Eastern European countries have also shown interest in Vietnamese labourers.
Along with traditional markets, hundreds of thousands of job opportunities are available for Vietnamese workers in Europe thanks to deals on labour cooperation signed in late 2018.
The Department of Overseas Labour attributed the results to rising demand in major markets, while Vietnamese workers’ quality meet the requirements in many new areas such as nursing, agriculture, aquaculture and technology.
Efforts have also been taken by firms to expand markets and improve the quality of the labour force. Furthermore, labourers themselves have upgraded their skills.
Labour export helped to alleviate the burden of creating jobs for the country’s young and dense population which provided employment for approximately 10 percent of the workforce.
While Vietnam continued sending most of its workers to its main labour markets in East Asia, Middle East and Malaysia, the Government is looking to expand its pool of receiving countries
Market expansion is in line with an increase of occupations Vietnamese people are taking, including many opting to work in the health sector as nurses and auxiliary staff.
To take full advantage of the deals, localities and competent sectors should pay attention to improving capacity for the workers so that they are qualified to work abroad.
