Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has instructed the
quick vaccination for people as more than 100,000 doses of COVID-19
vaccine have arrived in Vietnam.
Chairing a Cabinet’s meeting with the National
Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Hanoi on February 24,
the PM said Vietnam aims to provide COVID-19 vaccine
shots to all people.
However, as the supply of vaccine cannot meet demand
at the same time, priority should be given to certain groups in line with the
Government's resolution, he said, stressing the principle of high-risk groups
and pandemic-affected areas coming first, followed by those with lower risks.
More vaccine will be imported in the future to serve
domestic demands, the PM said while reminding people and authorities at all
levels to continue with strict epidemic prevention measures.
He stressed the need to persist with the twin
targets of controlling the pandemic and boosting economic development at the
same time.
PM Phuc lauded the efforts of localities in controlling the pandemic.
Regarding the “rescue” of goods in Hai Phong, Quang
Ninh and Hai Duong, the Government leader asked the Ministry of Industry and
Trade to work with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ministry
of Health to design procedures to quickly sell agricultural products in
pandemic-hit localities.
He also requested media agencies to strengthen communications on preventive
measures against COVID-19../.

The Ministry of Health has set forth a plan on the reception, preservation, distribution and use of COVID-19 vaccines during the 2021-2022 period, with the support of the COVAX Facility - the global procurement mechanism of COVAX.
Health care workers, those who join the COVID-19 combat, diplomats, customs and immigration officers are among the priority groups in the country’s vaccination plan.
Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
The ministry said it will only buy safe, effective vaccines that are assessed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and approved by the Stringent Regulatory Authorities (SRA), and have suitable prices.
The vaccination aims to ensure community immunity. Vietnam expects to have 80 percent of its population vaccinated against COVID-19.
However, the current supply allows the country to inject only 20 percent of the population in 2021-2022, targeting 95 percent of those vulnerable to virus infection.
The COVAX Facility programme will provide free vaccines and injection devices to inoculate 15-16 percent of 92 countries, including Vietnam.
Vietnam will also be supplied with 30 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine within this year.
The country also has several other COVID-19 candidate vaccines being developed, by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC), the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (VABIOTECH), and the Centre for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC).
Vietnam is one of the 40 countries that have conducted human trials of a COVID-19 vaccine.
It only buys safe, highly-protective vaccines pre-assessed by WHO, approved by a stringent regulatory authority (SRA), and with a good price.
Despite the COVID-19 vaccine, people still need to strictly follow disease prevention and control measures, in particular wearing masks when outdoors.
The Government is directing the acceleration of the production of a domestic COVID-19 vaccine, while ensuring safety and effectiveness.
Vaccines, both sourced from abroad and produced domestically, will be provided free, like the Quinvaxem vaccine in the national expanded immunisation programme, in the time to come.
