Series of celebration activities to mark 20th anniversary of City for Peace recognition

On
July 16, 1999, Hanoi was the first city in the Asia-Pacific region to have the
honor of being awarded the "City for Peace" by UNESCO. This is the
recognition of the international community for the outstanding achievements of
the City in the cause of innovation (Đổi Mới), as well as the aspiration of the
Vietnamese people for peace.
During
the past 20 years, Hanoi strives to transform itself, not only as a dynamic
city but also to create a peaceful, open and developing living environment,
joining hands to contribute to a peaceful world and a solid foundation for the
future.
To
commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hanoi City to receive the title "City
for Peace" (July 16, 1999 - July 16, 2019), the Hanoi Department of
Culture and Sports will organize a series of event. Accordingly, the rally to
celebrate 20 years of Hanoi was recognized as the "City for Peace"
which took place at 7:00 on July 13, 2019, at Ly Thai To Flower Garden with the
participation of the central delegates of Hanoi’s administratives, UNESCO
delegates internationally and in Vietnam, ambassadors, international
organizations, diplomatic of countries in Hanoi. At the same time, about 10,000
people will participate in the walk for peace in combination with the street
festival with the blocks: Folk block, village block, art gymnastics,
contemporary art ... creating colorful picture. Hanoi is a place of cultural
convergence and Hanoi - City for peace, the destination of cooperation,
friendship and peace.
On
this occasion, cultural and sports activities will take place from July 13 to
July 14. Specifically, at Ly Thai To flower garden stage and Ba Kieu temple
stage, Hoan Kiem Lake walking space takes place with art performances with 2
special music nights with the theme "I love Hanoi ", "Lighting
peace" introducing the presentation of UNESCO's intangible cultural
heritage: The central Bai Choi and Hue royal court music, Hue folk songs ...
At
the space of Le Thach Street, there will be a display space of "Friendship
Village". Embassies will participate in booths introducing countries'
culture; Artists introduce and display products of countries such as China,
India, Indonesia, Laos, Palestine, Panama…
Especially
at the cultural area of Hanoi and Quang Nam province, culinary artisans of two
province and citie will participate in introducing food stalls in the cultural
space of Hanoi's Children's Palace with total plus 18 booths on display,
introduced with typical cuisine such as: Pho, fish ball, roll cake; In Bat Giac
area, Quang Nam cuisine is introduced with Quang noodles, high floor, chicken
rice ...
In
the framework of the activities of the celebration, there is also a exhibition
of thematic images "For an elegant and civilized Hanoi" with images
and documents introducing the delicate, elegant and magnificent features of Ha
Internal; Exhibition of photos of "Peace Diary" with images,
documents introducing the war against the US, anti-war movement in Vietnam and
activities to heal the wounds of war of Vietnam and the US as friendly organizations
strengthen activities to promote peace in the world ...
A
round of writings about Hanoi - City for Peace was organized by the City Union
of Friendship Organizations from April 2019 and will be finalized in October
2019; the contest to search for "2019 Peaceful Friendship Ambassador"
by the City Union of Friendship Organizations from 5/2019.
Meanwhile,
the seminar "Hanoi - City for peace - 20 years of integration and
development" with cultural houses, experts in many domestic fields and
international friends ... will participate in the participation essay with
content to review the challenges and achievements of Hanoi Capital in all areas
in 20 years of integration and development, propose major solutions to boost
socio-economic development of the Capital, promoting the title "City for
peace" took place 14h on July 13 at Melia hotel.
In
addition, there are information and communication activities, which will
produce and broadcast documentary films such as "Hanoi - a city of
peaceful branding" scheduled to air on 10/20 10 July, on channel VTV1;
"Keeping the fire of peace" is expected to broadcast on 10 July 14 on
H1 channel; "Hanoi Soul" is scheduled to air on 20:00 5 July 15 on
VTV1 channel. The content of films focused on the theme of Hanoi - City For
Peace; Capital's socio-economic development achievements in all fields; Hanoi
in the process of integration and development is a safe and friendly
destination for international friends and visitors; Hanoi cultural features,
good traditional behavioral culture of Thang Long - Hanoi ...
Besides,
the 6th Hanoi Book Festival in 2019 with the theme "Hanoi - City for
Peace" from October 2 to 6 at the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center
in Hanoi.
Publishing
photo books "Hanoi - 20 years of City for peace (1999 - 2019)" to
inform and propagate to the people and international friends the image and
achievements of Hanoi during the renovation period and integration to
contribute to expanding foreign relations, promoting the socio-economic
development of the Capital.
Organizing
activities to celebrate 20 years of Hanoi city to receive the title "City
for peace" is organized to ensure solemnity and savings associated with
patriotic emulation movements, international cooperation and contributions,
contributing to promote the great meaning of the title "City for
peace". Thereby, introducing and promoting the culture and Hanoians’ life
style, arousing the pride of the Capital people together to build, preserve and
promote the value of the title "City for peace"; spreading the beauty
of Hanoi people, promoting the cultural values in the past 20 years, Hanoi
City has made efforts to build. Especially aiming at building the Capital into
a city bearing the symbol of creativity, intelligence, green, clean and
beautiful./.
