6/9/19

A book titled “Vietnam: Aspiration for Peace” was officially introduced to readers by the Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC) under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations in Hanoi on September 5.
Published by the National Politics-Truth Publishing House, the book is divided into three parts featuring research material on peace issues and Vietnamese people's peace ideology.
It features a collection of articles based on theoretical, political, historical and economic perspectives of many authors.
The first part of the book features various aspects of peace and war in different periods. Thoughts on peace in Việt Nam are also included.
The second part consists of a series of articles on the Party's views and policies on Việt Nam’s peace.
The third section addresses issues of the international peace and solidarity movements as well as the current struggle for peace of the Vietnamese people.
Speaking at the launch ceremony on Thursday, vice chairman of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uông Chu Lưu emphasised peace was the most sacred desire of humans, especially for Việt Nam – the country has gone through many wars to defend the national independence.
Vietnamese people truly understand the value of peace. It has become the life of everyone and so many generations, he said.
For Vietnam, a country that has gone through many wars to defend the Fatherland, peace makes even more sense, he said, adding that the Vietnamese people always aspire for and understand the value of peace and many generations have spared no effort to protect the peace and national independence.
The 300-page book, published by the Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House, comprises of three main parts and some appendices with many research materials on peace issues in general and Vietnam's ideology on peace in particular.
This is a collection of articles from many theoretical, political, historical and economic perspectives of many authors who have been attached to the activities of the VPC along with some other Vietnamese and international documents.

Lưu said protecting peace, defending independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the country, stabilising political-social security and creating a peaceful and stable environment for the development of the country was the responsibility of the Party, the army and the people./.

That Vietnam is the only candidate of Asian-Pacific nations for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term offers a great opportunity for the country to make active contributions to the world’s peace and security, including the UN’s work.

Vietnam is a symbol of the aspiration for peace and reconciliation and the shift from confrontation to dialogue, from mutual suspicion to gradually building trust so that old enemies become partners, which is a reason why it is chosen as the venue for the second DPRK-USA summit.

After 20 years since being awarded the title 'City for Peace' by UNESCO, the municipal Party committee, government and people of Hanoi capital city have constantly made efforts to build Hanoi into a modern city imbued with a rich national identity, preserving the title awarded by UNESCO, proving it worthy of the trust of the Vietnamese people and international friends.
