Vietnam held international seminar on children's rights

On June 16, on the sideline
of the 29th regular meeting
of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva (Switzerland), Vietnam organized an international
seminar on the elimination of harmful behavior to children. The seminar was
attended with the participation of speakers from the Committee on the Rights of
the Child (CRC) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
against women (CEDAW), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), delegates covers about
40 countries, international organizations and nongovernmental organizations.
Speaking at the seminar,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of the
Mission of Vietnam to the UN in Geneva called on countries to heed the
recommendations of the Committee on Conventions about infringements upon the
rights of children, especially girls, including harmful habits adversely affect
the dignity, health, social status as well as the enjoyment of their rights.

Thanh also proposed countries and the Convention concerning the Commission
should strengthen information and education on international and national legal
instruments about women's and children's rights, foster a comprehensive
approach to legislation and relating policies, as well as enhance compatibility
and efficiency through sub-regional and regional cooperation with similar
characteristics of economic and social circumstances.
