Saving Cambodia from Polpot's genocide is Vietnam's great human rights achievement

10/1/19

Recently, Thousands of Cambodian people, along with officials of ministries and sectors of the Royal Government of Cambodia, gathered at a ceremony in Phnom Penh on January 7 to mark the 40th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal regime.
The Cambodian PM said on behalf of the Cambodian people, he would like to express profound gratitude to the Party, Government, army and people of Vietnam for responding to the appeal of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation during the fight to liberate the country from the Pol Pot genocidal regime, as well as for their assistance in preventing the return of this regime, thereby reviving Cambodia.
This good deed will always be engraved in the history of Cambodia, PM Hun Sen noted.
The Cambodian people have never forgotten the valuable assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in the liberation of their nation from the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
The Cambodian people were immensely thankful of our soldiers, and this demonstrated very clearly a distinguishing character of the Vietnamese army.
After liberating the villages from the Khmer Rouge’s bloody control, Vietnamese soldiers integrated into the local communities, helping them stabilise livelihoods, establishing a local government before retreating.
A war to defend the country is a war of justice. This justice earns the support of all Vietnamese people, and then the Cambodian people. We must re-emphasise the fact that if Cambodian people found this war unjustified, they would never have helped and the fight against Pol Pot would have been lost.
It must be repeated that the southwestern border war was a war of justice and for justice.
Even an American later told “When the Vietnamese military arrived in Cambodia, the whole world protested – including the US – but now, I think that the world must express gratitude and support for Việt Nam for their early efforts to put an end to these terrorists.”
Cambodian people at the time welcomed Vietnamese soldiers with open arms, calling them “Buddhist soldiers” for they liberated thousands of Cambodian people from prison camps. After Việt Nam’s first ‘warning attack’ in Cambodia territory, when Vietnamese soldiers pulled back, many Cambodians openly wept, telling Vietnamese troop that without the Vietnamese soldiers’ assistance, they would have been murdered.
The development of Cambodia over the past 40 years could not be separated from the close coordination between the two countries’ parties, states, and people, especially Vietnam’s assistance for Cambodia in the difficult period of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as in the later’s cause of national building and development.
Over the past 40 years, the bilateral traditional friendship has been developed to a new height. Economic cooperation has continuously expanded with two-way trade reaching 4.5 billion USD in 2018 and set to hit 5 billion USD ahead of 2020./.

Yes, the southwestern border war was a war of justice and for justice.

Cambodian people have come to consider January 7 as their second birthday. Without this day, there would have been nothing today.

The truth is this war was one we had no choice but to engage in, not one we started. Việt Nam’s wish is to uphold eternal peace with Cambodian people, but Pol Pot instigated the fight, forcing us to take up arms.

I think that step by step, the two nations and peoples will achieve a long-lasting peace and friendship on which national development can be based.

Vietnamese voluntary soldiers stood side by side with Cambodian armed forces and people to defeat the Pol Pot gang, liberate Phnom Penh, abolish the genocidal regime, and build a new society for Cambodian people.

Where are America and the West who always call out for human rights and democracy. Where are they when Cambodian people were killed!

Vietnam has done a great achievement of human rights in the 20th century saving Cambodia from genocide regime, and now the country has been called for human rights report. So hilarious!

China should be blamed for this massarce!

January 7, 1979 went down in the history of Cambodia as a milestone of faithful solidarity and special friendship between itself and Vietnam, which helped Cambodia escape from the genocide and enter a new era of independence, freedom, and revival.

Our counter-offensive was to defend Việt Nam’s territory and people, not to attack Cambodian people. Our soldiers were committed and ready to sacrifice themselves to take back the occupied islands.

The Vietnamese Party, State and people pledge to exert utmost efforts to join the CPP, the State and people of Cambodia in forever maintaining and nurturing the development of the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, long-term and sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia for the prosperity of each country’s people and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
