The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Vietnam Association of Historical Science (VAHS) jointly held a national conference in Hanoi on February 15 to discuss the northern border defence war (1979-2019).
VSS President Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan said that the conference is a chance to review the historical event in an honest and objective manner, thus strengthening solidarity and friendship among those countries and nations.
At the same time, the conference also aimed to reject any wrongful, distorted, and slanderous arguments intended to use the event to harm the Party and State, or damage the Vietnam-China friendship relations, he said.
Sixty reports submitted to the conference affirmed the historical truth and the justice of Vietnam during the northern border defence war.
Many reports provided theoretical and practical foundations, as well as lessons learnt from the war, contributing to educating on the unity and determination necessary to build a strong country, especially amidst the complicated regional and global situation at present with unexpected changes.
Participants showed gratitude towards soldiers and those who fought and sacrificed for the safeguarding of the nation’s border land, while popularising patriotic traditions and gratitude towards older generations.
The event also contributed to affirming the Party and State’s consistent policy of treasuring its relations with China in the spirit of “setting aside the past and looking forwards to the future,” as well as Vietnam’s efforts to build a friendly, cooperative, equal, and win-win Vietnam-China partnership.
