Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong praised the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and trade unions at all levels, particularly female officials at trade unions, for playing an effective role in caring and protecting the rights and interests of female workers.
She made the remarks at the meeting with 90 outstanding female officials at trade unions across the country, held in Hanoi on February 23.
The NA Vice Chairwoman emphasised that the female labour force is a core part of national women’s movements, accounting for more than 50% of the total social labour force.
She lauded trade unions for developing diverse and practical activities for their members and female workers over the past few years.
The senior legislator also suggested that trade unions continue to renew their performance to grasp the aspirations and opinions of workers to ensure the correct implementation of the policies and laws on female workers.
Trade unions should propose amendments and supplements to laws and policies on female workers and gender equality in order to build harmonious labour relations at work, the NA Vice Chairwoman noted.
