International opinions on Vietnam's contribution if elected UNSC

Vietnam will be elected as a non-permanent member of the
United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the election slated for June 7, a
leading Egyptian journalist has said.
In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Al Mesa newspaper of Egypt Refaat Khaled said he supports Vietnam’s bid for the post for the 2020-2021 tenure, expressing his belief that the country will win the election.
The journalist further said that becoming a non-permanent member of the UNSC, Vietnam will have considerable contributions at international forums and play an active role in helping end conflicts in the world, fight terrorism and achieve peace and security for the international community.
Besides, he also said he is especially impressed by Vietnam’s socio-economic developments over the recent past, expressing a special sentiment towards the country and people of Vietnam. Vietnam is known to the Arab world as a heroic country in Asia and admired by Arab countries in particular and the world in general, he added.
Vietnam’s economy is strongly growing in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Asia, the journalist noted, stressing that the country is playing an active and effective role in Asia and the world over.

On the threshold of the election of five countries as
non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council slated for June 7,
a Japanese high-ranking diplomat has expressed his belief that Vietnam will
have a high chance to win the election.
Speaking to Vietnam News Agency correspondents on the possibility, head of the Japanese delegation to the UN Koro Bessho stressed: “I am sure Vietnam will be elected”. He also said he hopes Vietnam, when elected, will have a role to play in a very important issue, that is to keep the council continuing its operations in an effective way.
The diplomat affirmed Vietnam is a “very important, close friend and strategic partner” of Japan, that is why the two sides want to help each other in international issues.
With regard to the Asian-Pacific region, he said Japan looks towards Vietnam’s leadership in helping the point of view of regional countries be reflected.
Vietnam has “very important” history of overcoming the war and building peace and economy, and this will give the country a status in the security council, the Japanese diplomat stressed, adding that the experience will also help Vietnam give good advice and input into the organization.
He also shared his country’s experiences in solving challenges during the 22 years when Japan was a non-permanent member of the council, stressing on the need for thorough preparations to grasp the issues emerging in reality at different points of time.
Meanwhile, Italy supports Vietnam’s bid to run for a
non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the
2020-2021 term, affirmed Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.Speaking to Vietnam News Agency correspondents on the possibility, head of the Japanese delegation to the UN Koro Bessho stressed: “I am sure Vietnam will be elected”. He made the affirmation at his meeting with Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in Hanoi on June 5 during his official visit to Vietnam.
Ngan said she believes the visit by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte would contribute to stepping up the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership./.

Vietnam will have more opportunities to prove its capability and play a more important role in regional and global issues.
Vietnam served as a non-permanent member of the UNSC in the 2008-2009 term, during which the country played an important role in the adoption of the UN resolution on women, peace and security.
At present, Vietnam is also participating in UN peacekeeping forces, sending for the first time 63 officers in a level-two field hospital to South Sudan while making strong commitment to get more involved in peacekeeping activities.
Vietnam’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council in 2014-2016 term, and its selection to the UN Commission on International Trade Law (CITRAL) in late 2018 are evidence of the country’s strong commitment to international integration.
Noting that Vietnam could become a non-permanent member of the UNSC at the same time with assuming the rotary chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), heavy responsibilities are ahead for the country when it has to demonstrate its role and capability not only in the international area but also in the region.
Vietnam would play a bigger role in issues on the UNSC’s agenda such as the denuclearization in the Korean peninsula or the situation in Myanmar.
Vietnam should also share its experience in post-war recovery, economic development, realization of Millennium Goals, commitment to realising the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and role in peacekeeping forces
Over the past four decades, Vietnam has received tremendous support from the UN and its members and demonstrated its responsible member of the United Nations (UN) since joining the int'l; community.
