Police in Vietnam
have arrested some bloggers for publishing content on the Internet, including
YouTube, that distorted state policies and libeled government officials.
Officers in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa said on Sunday that they had
captured Nguyen Thanh Dung, 29, on charges of abusing democratic freedoms to
infringe upon the interests of the state and the legitimate rights and
interests of organizations and citizens.
Dung will be in detention for three months to
facilitate an investigation into his accusations.
The man has his permanent residency
registered in Tao Xuyen Ward, Thanh
Hoa City,
which is the provincial capital.
Many articles and videos distorting Party and
government policies and slandering Party and government leaders, as well as
provincial officials, have gone viral on social media and personal blogs
recently, police said in their preliminary probe.
Thanh Hoa police officers then caught Dung
red-handed disseminating such content online on Friday, after quite a time
tracking him.
Dung was found graduating from the Hanoi University of
Science and Technology and working now at Nghi Son Economic Zone in Tinh Gia
District, Thanh Hoa.
He is also the administrator of the ‘ThienAn
TV’ YouTube channel, where many videos were uploaded to libel Party and
government leaders, police said.
Dung has admitted to creating and
administering various online accounts to run such content.
Thanh Hoa police are expanding their probe.
Last month, authorities in the central province of Khanh Hoa also arrested Nguyen Ngoc Nhu
Quynh, 37, and accused her of publishing distorted stories and videos about the
government and Party.
They said Quynh ran a blog and Facebook page
as Me Nam (Mother Mushroom) since 2012.
She has been accused of abusing democratic
rights, distorting facts and attempting to subvert the government and the
Party.
The same month, another facebooker, Ho Van
Hai, (also known as “Ho Hai”) was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City for distributing documents
and information designed to undermine the state.
The People’s Court of Hanoi sentenced blogger Nguyen Huu Vinh and
his assistant Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy to five and three years in prison each for
anti-state blog posts in March. An appeals court upheld their sentences in
October.
There are many people who're acting against interests of the nation and the people, calling themselves with the beautiful names such as human rights defenders or blogger for democracy, etc... In fact, they're abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the state and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and citizens. They must be punished strictly./.
