Charity programme raises nearly VND100 billion to help needy people

Nearly VND100 billion (over US$4.4 billion) was raised at a programme held by the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was in attendance at the event.
With the spirit of “Hanoi for the nation”, over the past year, the capital city has provided funding for the building of over 150 houses to help flood victims in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, and Son La provinces.
The city also presented over 100,000 chairs, at a the total cost of more than VND13 billion, for cultural houses and 2,000 gifts worth VND1 billion for ethnic children of boarding schools in 10 provinces, including Son La, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Quang Ninh, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Dien Bien, and Thai Nguyen;
In addition, Hanoi raised funds worth nearly VND7 billion for operations for 240 children with heart disease and cleft palates in 12 localities, including Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh. Binh, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, and Son La; as well as donating many savings books and gifts to needy children and children suffering from severe diseases.
In 2018, Hanoi is striving to build and repair houses for over 4,000 needy households, with a total budget of over VND163 billion.
