Party official receives Vietnam Buddhist Tet delegation

Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai hosted a reception in Hanoi on January 16 for Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Council, who led a delegation to extend Tet (Lunar New Year) greetings to the commission.
Speaking at the reception, Politburo member Mai expressed his best wishes to Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers, saying the relations between the two offices, based on cooperation and mutual support, have cultivated great results over recent years.
She affirmed that the VBS has been growing strongly and played a greater part in people-to-people diplomacy as well as national construction.
The success of the UN Day of Vesak celebration in May, 2019 is significant to Buddhism’s development in Vietnam and has contributed to the State and Party’s external affairs, she added.
The Politburo member asked that in the coming years, the VBS will continue bringing great Buddhism moral values to our live and society, enhancing charitable activities and fostering regional and global cooperation, contributing to the consolidation of national unity and the building of a greater nation.
For his part, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu expressed his thanks to the Party, State, and Government for creating such favourable conditions for activities of VBS and Buddhist followers.
He pledged to continue teaching Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers both at home and overseas to comply with the Party’s policies and State’s laws to promote a stronger national unity.
