Vietnamese leaders extends best wishes on Lord Buddha’s birthday

The Party and the State always respect the right to
religions and believes of the people while ensuring that religious
activities are in line with the law, Permanent Deputy Prime
Minister Truong Hoa Binh reiterated on May 3.
Speaking at a Buddhist pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City, the official, who is a Politburo member, also extended greetings to leading figures and followers of the religion of the occasion of the Buddha birthday, expressing his belief that they will continue the nation’s path in the motto of “religion, nation and socialism”.
He thanked them for their contributions to the nation, especially during the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and called on them to take an active part in social activities for national construction and defence.
Thanking the attention and facilitation by the Party and State, representatives of the Buddhist officials and followers in the country highlighted that over the past two millennia, the religion has been going along with the nation for national interests, towards the building of a peaceful and happy society.
In the time to come, they pledged to continue upholding the tradition of patriotism, taking an active part in charity activities, fulfilling citizens’ obligations and respecting the law.

He asked that the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Buddhist dignitaries and followers continue promoting the strength of great national unity and join hands with nations to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic, boost socioeconomic development, ensure defence and security, and increase Vietnam’s regional and international profile./.

Vietnamese Buddhist followers have celebrated the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha in a solemn and joyful atmosphere. Monks, nuns, followers and others attended celebrations at pagodas nationwide, presenting a picture of religious freedom in Vietnam.
Lord Buddha’s birthday is important for the more than 10 million Vietnamese Buddhist followers, and is a major cultural event in Vietnam.
Local authorities and social organizations have supported Buddhist followers celebrating Lord Buddha’s birthday. Buddhist delegations have met with each other and discussed the dharma.
Lord Buddha’s birthday has been celebrated in Vietnam for more than 2,000 years. Vietnam enjoys freedom of religion. Religious activities are unrestricted. People are free to follow their religious practices.
Vietnam’s Law on Religion and Belief creates favourable conditions for Buddhism and other religions to develop. Vietnam has 13 religions and 36 religious organizations with a total of 24 million followers, 83 thousand religious dignitaries, 46 religious training centers, and 25 thousand places of worship.
