As a highly open and deeply integrated economy, Vietnam was faced with significant challenges from the pandemic, which were compounded by an African swine fever outbreak and back-to-back natural disasters, especially in the central region.
Looking back at the past year, Vietnam can be proud that under the sound leadership of the Communist Party and with the concerted efforts of the whole people, the nation was able to record extraordinary achievements which have won praise from the international community.
Vietnam managed to overcome great challenges and fulfil the set target in relatively comprehensive manner.
The country was considered a bright spot in fighting against Covid-19 while maintaining economic growth and ensuring social security. Vietnam effectively carried out its external relations and international integration activities in various flexible forms suitable with the Covid-19 situation. Party building also continued to be stepped up with many impressive results.
It was the success in fighting Covid-19 that enabled Vietnam to make a good economic recovery. With the growth rate of 2.91%, Vietnam was one of the world’s ten fastest-growing economies and one of the 16 most successful emerging economies in 2020.
Vietnam successfully assumed its role as Chair of ASEAN 2020, AIPA 41 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The success of Party congresses at all levels forms the foundation for the success of the upcoming 13th National Party Congress.
Such are the notable imprints of 2020, helping Vietnam to possess an economy, strength and international prestige never seen before as once affirmed by General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong.
The Vietnamese Party, people and country managed successfully to ride out a year of enormous challenges and scored immensely prideworthy achievements.
