Dr Nguyen Hong Hai, a researcher at the Center for Policy Futures under the University of Queensland in Australia, told the Viet Nam News Agency (VNA)'s correspondent that Viet Nam's participation in the UN peacekeeping operations came from its sense of responsibility.

That is the reason why the country has won trust of the UN and partners, he explained.

Viet Nam is a pioneer in joining international conventions on human rights, adding that it is the first country in Asia and the second in Asia-Pacific to sign and ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, said Nguyen.

Besides, Viet Nam has joined and ratified the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

The country has also integrated provisions of the conventions into domestic laws, making the national legal framework for disadvantaged groups more perfect and suitable with international standards.

During two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese State and Government worked hard to ensure people's rights by providing free-of-charge medical services and vaccination and launching packages supporting affected businesses and people.

Nguyen stated that economic development had significantly contributed to Viet Nam's achievements in hunger eradication and poverty reduction. Many international experts have recognized the remarkable economic growth of Viet Nam, and predicted that Viet Nam would become an Asian economic dragon./.
