The message of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014

                                                               Nobel Peace prize 2014

In recent years, the decision of the Nobel Peace Prize of the Norwegian Nobel Peace Committee has always causing controversy in the international community.
The list of nominees for 2014 Nobel Peace Prize is the longest one with 278 nominations, including 231 individuals and 47 organizations; the two candidates who have won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize are Pakistani girl Malala Yousafzai and the Indians activist for children's rights Kailash Satyarthi. The girl is said to be too young (17-year-old girl Malala has became the youngest person to win the Nobel Prize) and the other one, previously, perhaps only the Indian people know of him. As the previous times, the main reason of the debate is how much these candidates deserve to win.
Indeed, the fact that the Nobel Peace Prize has always controversial and is completely understandable, because:
First, the criteria which has been set by the founder of the prize, Alfred Nobel. According to Nobel's will, the prize will be awarded "to the person who has made great contributions in promoting solidarity among nations, in eliminating or limiting the armed forces and in organizing conferences to promote peace ". The criteria doesn’t make sense, it depends on sense, feeling and politics and it’s hard to determine accurately.
Second, the process of the award’s selection. To ensure objectivity, the award is decided by a committee consisting of five members, who has been chosen by the Norwegian parliament and are not among current MPs. However, the assessment of individual efforts and achievements by a small number of members, could easily be limited, not comprehensive.
Third, the difference to the other Nobel Prize. For the Nobel Prize in literature, physics, biology and chemistry, the candidates are considered after two or three decades since the birth of their contribution - for example, invented the LED award Nobel Prize in Physics 2014 is awarded for the invention of LED light. In contrast, the contribution within the year or within short period of time around consideration time has been meaningful to decide on the candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize. Because of this short-term, in history, the Nobel Peace Prize has been "incidents" for many times, as Adolf Hitler was nominated in 1939, especially in the case of President Theodore Roosevelt (right after was honored in 1906, he forcibly suppressed the uprising against the US military occupation of the people of the Philippines). Furthermore, in contemporary international life, the issues relating to peace or war are extremely complex, and it often requires the efforts for a long process to solve them.
Fourth, the Commission has never given enough explanation in the public about why candidates are awarded. The Commission’s notices are very short, such as statements about Malala: "She has been struggling in the most dangerous circumstances. With the courage, Yousafzai has became the spokesperson for the girls ", or comment on Satyarthi:"He has contributed greatly to the development of international principles relating to children's rights ", etc… These notices can not differentiate clearly between the winners and the rest, especially in cases where there is a long list of candidates.
Above all, perhaps, our self-evaluation of each candidates’ achievements has given rise to this debate.
But this debate may helps us to better understand the message of the Nobel Prize Committee, even though it is not publicly announced.
Decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for contributions relating to the rights of children, perhaps Norwegian Nobel Committee wants to send to the international community following implications:
Firstly, it was time to give warnings about the severity of violations of children's basic rights, notably the right to go to school. According to a new report published in June this year by the UN, which estimated 58 million children worldwide are not in school, showing the girls are the most disadvantaged. The failure to receive the minimum knowledge has made these children easily to fall into the path of crime. Because the majority of children, who is not in school, is living in areas where conflict is occurring or poverty areas, such as in the Gaza Strip, Kashmir, Syria, Ukraine, Somalia, etc. As we can see in many parts of the world the image of the 8 or 9-year-old children who can not read or write well but using professionally a submachine gun, so it can be affirmed that the survival of this planet truly threatened.
The fact is that, people have been struggling to find ways to address hot spots, from the dialogue to violent measures, but still no results. But there is a general resolution for regional conflicts that parties probably do not know either deliberately forget - just let children go to school. Simply by doing this all the "hot heads" will reduce their heat.
It is easier to understand, protecting children's rights means ensuring a bright future for human being.
Giving the Nobel Peace Prize to two citizens of Pakistan and India, maybe the Norwegian Committee want them to become ambassadors of peace to help the two neighboring countries could end the conflict has dragged for decades as land of Kashmir. This was evidenced by the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. At that time, there wasn’t the work which has been done in less than a year, it was the thought to promote dialogue, firstly with the Muslim world had helped the US President Barack Obama win this award. More importantly, it seems that President Obama has always been haunted the honorable Prize, for instance in the case of Syrian chemical weapons in 2013.
In the context of the stressful world with conflicts and hot spots in many parts of the world, the Committee considered the Nobel Peace Prize has significant contributions for peacemaking, preventing war in the future. This is also understandable.
If so, the debate about who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize was not so important anymore. Now, what everyone needs to do is probably to think about the messages from each award, because each of the Nobel Peace Prize are all aimed at peacemaking, just by the different ways./.
