The Vietnam Migration Profile 2016 was released by the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in Hanoi on August 22.
The profile launch event saw the participation of over 100 delegates from the National Assembly Office, the Government Office, ministries, sectors, localities, embassies and consulate generals of countries, and international organisations.
The Vietnam Migration Profile 2016 is the result of the project "Strengthening mechanisms for cooperation among Vietnamese authorities in migration management" that has been implemented by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Hanoi for 2 years (2015 - 2017).
Addressing the event, Director General of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam pursues a consistent policy of the promotion of legal migration, the prevention of illegal migration, the insurance of safe migration and the protection of legitimate rights and interests of migrants.
Viet Nam always attaches importance to promoting cooperation with other countries in the region and world on migration management in order to share experience and information on migration, contributing to crafting appropriate policies for the development of the country in the process of international integration.
Viet Nam’s rapid economic development is fuelling large migration flows from rural areas to where employment opportunities are more available. Millions of migrants are working in Viet Nam’s largest cities. These internal migrants often have difficulty accessing accommodation, education for their children, and health care. With regard to international migration, millions of Vietnamese live permanently overseas, and hundreds of thousands reside abroad as temporary workers.
The country wants to enhance cooperation in migration management with other countries so as to share experience and information, helping to build suitable policies that will serve national development during the integration process, he noted.
The profile includes updated data on Vietnam's migration flows, as well as analysis and assessment of migration status; offers recommendations in line with the current situation in order to improve the management capacity of relevant ministries and branches, contributing to better managing international migration and strengthening mechanisms of cooperation between State management agencies.
A similar event on the release of the 2016 migration profile will also be held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 29, to widely spread it to relevant agencies and foreign representative agencies in the southern region./.
