Vietnam's leaders host banquet for foreign diplomats, friends on National Day

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife hosted a banquet for ambassadors and head of international organisations in Vietnam and their spouses in Hanoi on August 31 on the occasion of the 72nd National Day (September 2).
Addressing the event, the PM reviewed the country’s achievements over the past 72 years, highlighting that Vietnam is always a friend and trustworthy partner of countries around the world.
Noting common challenges facing the world, he said that Vietnam always works hard to join the international community’s efforts for a world without war and poverty.
He recognised international friends’ support to Vietnam’s attempts to build a constructive Government, he said that Vietnam is focusing on implementing breakthrough measures and drastic moves to improve the economy’s productivity and competitiveness, speeding up administrative reform and backing businesses.
With its foreign policy of independence and self-reliance, Vietnam has strengthened international cooperation and integration as well as its efforts in building the ASEAN Community, he stated. The PM also said that Vietnam is working hard to show good performance in hosting the APEC Year 2017.
He thanked governments and people of foreign countries as well as international and regional organisations and international partners and friends, expressing his hope to receive further support from them.
On behalf of the guests, Venezuelan Ambassador Jorge Rodon Uzcategui, who is also head of the diplomatic corps, in Hanoi congratulated Vietnam on the National Day.
He lauded Vietnam’s attainments in socio-economic development with GDP growth reaching 6.21 percent in eight months of this year and likely hitting 6.7 percent for the whole year.
He said that Vietnam is a responsible country in external relations activities, with up close partnership with other developing countries, mainly in agriculture, thus contributing to the equal and sustainable development of the world.
He also praised Vietnam’s efforts in hosting the APEC Year 2017, while expressing his belief that the event will be a success./.

The Vietnamese flag is a constant reminder to succeeding generations of Vietnamese as to what their predecessors had to sacrifice and endure to secure an independent Vietnam - this is the reason why every house displays the national flag with such pride.
September 2nd, 1945 is an important landmark marking a major turning point of Vietnam. It was an establishment day of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and is also considered the National Independence Day of the current Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Over the past 72 years, the country has gained significant achievements in various fields such as economics, trade, defense-security, external affairs, and international integration.
President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, officially claiming the independence and sovereignty of Vietnam from France and Japan.
A delegation of Party, State, National Assembly, Government and Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee leaders paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi on the occasion of the 72nd National Day (September 2).
