Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the press to refute false information on social networks in a public and timely fashion, contributing to solidifying the trust among the people, the business community, and investors, both at home and abroad.
The government leader made the request while hosting a reception for veteran journalists and leaders of the press agencies in Hanoi on June 20, on the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism Day (June 21, 1925-2018).
PM Phuc extended his congratulations to journalists nationwide, affirming that the Vietnamese revolutionary press always remains a key force and holds an important position in the ideological and cultural front, contributing significantly to the Party’s revolutionary cause as well as the cause of national construction and protection.
Praising the efforts and achievements made by the press agencies over the past few years, he pointed out a number of shortcomings that the Vietnamese press needs to seriously examine and address, including the pursuit of commercialisation, group interests, individual interests, and the lopsided coverage of news to attract views.
The PM urged the press to work on consolidating social trust and a consensus in the implementation of the Party and State’s guidelines and policies, while getting involved in supervising state agencies in the implementation of the government’s motto of “discipline, integrity, action, creativity, and efficiency”.
The press should continue to promote its leading role in combating hostilities, fighting to protect national territorial sovereignty, proactively refuting false information, and directing public opinion, he said.
The government leader asked the functional agencies to research, review, and finalise the relevant mechanisms and policies in order to ensure the incomes and standard of living for journalists, as well as those working in press agencies.
On the occasion, PM Phuc presented gifts to several veteran journalists and representatives of the press agencies.

The more a society develops, the more the press becomes particularly important.
The revolutionary press is an extremely important tool to fulfill that task and is also a means to constantly push forward social development.
Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism founded and led by President Ho Chi Minh, has always followed the valiant struggles of our Party and our people, for national independence and for socialism.
In the heroic struggles against aggression to defend the motherland, the press has been an important arm of the ideological front.
Many press works have actually been revolutionary edicts urging all people to fight for national independence.
The press continues to be the main force in shaping public opinion, as well as informing, cheering and encouraging the whole Party, people and army to successfully implement renewal policies initiated by the Party.
the press has an important contribution to the cause of national renewal, and that process helps the press and journalists to continually develop. We have never had as many journalists and media outlets as today.
Every journalist and press agency should promote the traditions of generations of journalists over the last 90 years to uphold social responsibility, civic duty and professional ethics to fulfill their functions and duties, to be worthy of the trust of the Party and the expectations of the people.
