Lunch with “Vietnam’ First Lady”

5/8/14
Ms. Mai Thị Hạnh (in black) eating lunch with other people at Smile restaurant

Few days ago, we were very lucky to have lunch with the President’s Lady – Ms. Mai Thi Hanh, a charity lunch at Smile restaurant, at 6 Cong Quynh Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. This restaurant is a address that always held charitable activities, they sell meal with the lowest price (2.000 VND per ration) that the poor can afford.

Called the charity lunch because Ms. Hanh went there not only to eat but also to give charity. After the lunch and payment, she and her friends gave some more money to support Smile restaurant to have more financial resources to serve the poor.

The President's wife went there not for public relations (PR) herself or her husband.
She went to Smile restaurant with her friends to have lunch as normal, and some reporters discovered accidentally and reported it. And certainly, Ms. Hanh dose not take charity for the purpose of media coverage.

I saw her having lunch with other people in the restaurant very friendly. She chatted with a lot of people after the lunch, showing her sympathy with the poor people. There was no distance between “First Lady” and normal citizens, especially poor people.

Days after, news and pictures about Ms. Hanh eating lunch at Smile restaurant posted to the media. This was not under her will, that it is the job of the press. After all, I think the news reporter did a very professional job to inform others about a very meaningful activity of the President’s wife.

Please note all the good deeds in the community to have a more joyful and compassionate life; believe that many of us come to the poor in sincerity and kindness.

Recently, the press praised the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong lining up for fried chicken, Uruguayan President José Mujica waiting for a doctor in the popular hospital. These two politicians, one is considered to be close to people, other one is considered a life of poverty. Their casual images have had a positive impact on the community.

Then, the image of the President's wife eating lunch in charitable restaurant with the poor is also worth noting, as well as a nice gesture.

I think, if the rich, the famous or the high ranking social status… spend their little time  to have a charity meal, give some money to support the poor, there will be more people having enough food to eat.

Thanks Ms. Mai Thi Hanh and her friends, and hope that there will be more ladies and gentlemen, who is close to and sharing hardness of life with the poor even more.

Yes, she's so kind. And I think our social media should show more activities to everyone. Therefore, we will be getting more close to the life of the political elite.

This is so strange to our society but it is very normal in foreign country like the US, EU, etc. And I think it's good and we should learn.
