Overseas Vietnamese contributing to the nation’s development

Home Spring Festival organized to welcome overseas Vietnamese returning home on Tet holiday
On February 15, in
Ho Chi Minh city, I was very lucky to join a meaningful
event, when more than 400 overseas Vietnamese from all over the world returned
home and looked for a chance of investment in Vietnam. In the event, leaders from
the State and Ho Chi Minh city led by Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Chairman of the
Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, hailed the expatriates for acting
as cultural ambassadors in their host countries and bridging economic, and
scientific and technological ties with the fatherland. Oversea Vietnamese in
the meeting expressed their happiness to witness the country’s socio-economic development
and they were really grateful to the Vietnamese Party and Government’s policies
in the direction of creating favorable conditions for overseas people and
viewing them as an integral part of the Vietnamese community.
As I know, the
overseas Vietnamese (OV) community has roughly
around 4 million people, currently living, working, studying in 103
countries and territories, with nearly 400 thousand with college education and
higher. This community is making efforts to lead stable lives, integrate into
their local communities. They have high knowledge and economic potentials, are becoming
increasingly successful, particularly the young in areas such as science and
technology, economic, culture and society. OV retains close links to their home
country and localities. Every year, roughly 500 thousand turns of OV return to Viet Nam,
300 of which are specialists and academics for work, and thousands for seeking
investment and commercial opportunities. Currently OV are investing in about
3200 projects in Viet Nam
with total investment of 5.7 billion
USD, 60% of which has good operations. Remittances grow 10-15% annually, from 3
billion USD in 2004 to 7.4 billion USD in 2008, and 8 billion USD in 2010. OV
are becoming increasingly active in community, philanthropist activities aimed
towards their home country, helping poor fellow Vietnamese living in difficult situations.
OV activities have a long history closely linked to the protection and construction
of the country, and play an important role in national Great Unity efforts. In
the current national development context, OV communication activities are
becoming increasingly important in encouraging this community to take part in
national construction efforts and developing the foreign relations of Viet Nam.
Over the years, perceptions concerning OV communication activities together
with the OV community itself have experienced many changes.
In the event
mentioned above, I saw no differences between overseas people and people who
are living in Vietnam,
I just saw Vietnamese people who were trying to build their country to a strong
and wealthy nation. For the time being, there are more and more Vietnamese
people leaving or coming back to Vietnam to seek for their lifetime
chance, including me. But wherever they go, Vietnam
is always a home to Vietnamese people, and each of us will do our best to
contribute to the development of Vietnam!

Overseas Vietnamese have great potential to contribute to the country's development
The new generation of OVs is so clever and active!
Yes, they are. But they should learn more about our tradition!
Wherever Vietnamese people are, we should be more united!
The Government and the OV community are getting closely linked to each other..
