The historic role of the Communist Party of Vietnam after 85 year in leadership

7/2/15

A series of activities have been held across the country in the presence of Party and State senior leaders to celebrate the 85th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) (February 3, 1930-2015). The Communist Party of Vietnam is the founding and ruling political party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It is a Marxist-Leninist Communist Party, and is supported by (and a part of) the Vietnamese Fatherland Front. In most of the cases, the Vietnamese press and people refer to the Communist Party of Vietnam as "Đảng" (Party) or "Đảng ta" (our Party).
It was created as the Viet Nam Communist Party on February 3rd, 1930 at a unifying conference in Hong Kong. The party came out of the communist organizations which had arisen in Indochina in the 1920s with the development of the worker and national liberation movements. President Ho Chi Minh played a large role in preparing for and conducting the conference. During the first plenum of the party in October of 1930, the central committee decided to rename the party as the Indochina Communist Party. A political program was accepted at this plenum, which saw the need for a bourgeois democratic revolution, and considered how this would eventually become a socialist revolution. The name was changed to Communist Party of Vietnam in 1976.
Vietnam is advancing in the renewal process (Doi Moi) set by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) at the 6th National Party Congress in 1986. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that reviewing Vietnam’s 30 years of renewal took into consideration the national and international context, the Party’s guidelines for national reform, achievements, shortcomings, causes, lessons, future orientations for comprehensive reform, and broad consensus within the Party and society.
While building a socialist-oriented market economy, Vietnam has escaped socio-economic crisis and created necessary conditions for a new development period of industrialization and modernization. Vietnam’s economy has recorded rapid growth. The economic structure has shifted toward industrialization and modernization. Vietnam has developed a multi-sector economy and mechanisms for a socialist-oriented market economy. The macro-economy has been stabilized. Vietnam has ensured social advancement and equality and improved the living standard of the people. The achievements of the renewal process have proven the Party’s wise leadership which is a decisive factor for national reform and encouraging the people to contribute to socio-economic development.
Reality over the past 85 years has proved that the correct and clear-sighted leadership of the Party is the decisive factor behind every victory of the Vietnamese revolution. In Vietnam there is no other political force than the CPV that has enough will, brainpower, experience, prestige and capacity to lead the country through all difficulties and challenges to final success.
The birth of the CPV is a great turning point in our country’s revolutionary history, marking a milestone in our nation’s development path, despite numerous ups and downs and mistakes at times, the Party has seriously worked to correct its shortcomings, thus winning over the people’s trust and support. That is why the Party has been able to lead the Vietnamese revolutionary from victory to victory, recording such accomplishments as the August Revolution in 1945 and the resistance wars to liberate and defend the nation as well as the Doi Moi cause.
The Party’s Doi Moi cause has been carried out for nearly 30 years now, which has brought about historic achievements. From a poor and backward country seriously devastated by many years of war and trade embargos, Vietnam has risen with rapid economic growth along the direction of industrialization and modernization while building a market-oriented socialist economy. Our country’s power has greatly increased, thus creating a new position and new momentum for development with bright prospects.
Over recent years, the Party has devoted a great amount of time and great efforts to the key task of Party building. The Party has conducted a drive on Party strengthening in line with the Resolution of the 4th Plenum of the Party Central Committee (11th tenure) and gained initial important outcomes and lessons, helping stop and partly curb negative phenomena, enhancing the Party’s leadership and combat capacity.
However, there remains a lot to do in strengthening the Party, and the general direction for this task is to build on the good traditions, preserve and fortify the Party’s revolutionary nature and vanguard role, thus building a Party really strong and pure in all terms, from politics, ideology, ethics, organisation, personnel to style of leadership, enhancing the ties between the Party and the masses, ensuring that the Party is capable of leading the country on the path of constant development.”
In 2015, the international and domestic situations create many opportunities and advantages, but also pose many difficulties and challenges, requiring the Party, the people and army as a whole to make all out efforts with the highest resolve to fulfil the set tasks. But there is a firm belief that the CPV will fulfil its mission and the Party, the people and the army will unite as one to build a country of peace, independence, unity, democracy and prosperity, strongly advancing on the path to socialism. The CPV must closely study, analyze, and discuss practical issues to create consensus on new, difficult issues such as the concept and characteristics of a socialist-oriented market economy matching Vietnam’s economic level, growth model and economic structure suitable for Vietnam, and a criterion for an industrialized nation aligned with international standards and Vietnam’s conditions.

Under the Party's leadershipn, our country has not only overcomed the long-lasting stagnation in the 70s, 80s and the severe social-economic crisis in the middle of the 80s but also brought many important positive changes in Vietnam.

We do believe that while key socialist objective can be common, the road to socialism can be various based on concrete conditions of each country as well as surrounding situation at each historical period.

The current situation in the region and the world poses a considerable challenge to Vietnam’s diplomacy and party external affairs. So, we need smart and clever leadership of our Party.

Together with achievements of Cuba, China, Laos, DPRK, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and other countries in Latin America, it is an additional proves that the history did not end, that socialism is good and necessary society for the people and is the only real alternative to the capitalism which is in crisis today.

Nevertheless, we understand that we do not have yet socialism in Vietnam, we are still in the process of building it.
