The tragic fate of the children in the hands of IS

The number of kidnapped Iraqi children
will be sold as sex slaves or forced to become suicide bombers by Islamic State
(IS). If they do not obey, they will be nailed to the body or buried alive.
According to the Daily Mail, the shocking
information above is cited from the report of the UN Convention on the Rights
of the Child (UNCRC) which was announced on February 5th. According
to the UNCRC, the Iraqi teenagers under 18 are subjected to harsh training by
IS militants and used for the purpose of suicide bombers, manufacturing bomb,
providing information or becoming “human shield” for them in air strikes by the
US and coalition forces. “We are really concerned about the kidnapping, torture
and murder of children, especially for the children of the minority”, Reuters
quoted Renate Winter’s speech - an experts from the UN Convention on the Rights
of the Child. Ms. Winter disclosed that many Islamic children are victims of
this brutal organization.
When it need strengthen jihadi
soldiers, IS kidnapped a lot of boys to “brainwash” and train to become reserve
soldiers. Particularly, many 8-year-old children or younger are trained as a true warrior to fight at the battlefield.
In the last May, more than 100 students in the Kobani town near Syrian border
were kidnapped on way back home. After about 5 months, some boys were released.

One boy escaped after pretending to
become volunteer of suicide bombers told that the training of teenage soldiers by
IS is very brutal. It is because of a small mistake such as forget Koran or
drink water when not allowed, children will be beaten with every kinds of
cables on their back and foot. A group of children after trying to escape was
brutally tortured for hours.
Not only that, the IS has captured
children with disabilities to become suicide bombers. “We recorded many reports
on children, especially disable children with no cognitive ability to be used
as IS’ suicide bombers”, Ms. Winter said. She supply more information: “IS
sells girls on the slave market as a commodity with the price tag on their
body” Meanwhile, the others who do not follow orders or useless, they will be
ruthlessly murdered in ways that are barbaric for example beheading, buried
alive or nailed. The report also showed that a lot of children were killed or
injured in air strikes and shelling by security forces in Iraq
This is not the first time the crimes,
especially to children by the IS extremist organizations have been mentioned.
Experts said that children are becoming objects of IS easy profit (they are
sold as sex slaves) and easy to “brainwash”. To this time, “the reign of IS
terror” as called by the UN killed 9,000 people and forced hundreds of
thousands of others fell into refugees. Along with the expansion of IS, there
are more and more graves which contain hundreds of executed bodies, including

of UNCRC, this UN committee urged Iraqi authorities to implement all necessary
measures to “save the children” who are living under the control of the IS organization
and prosecute perpetrators of above horrific crimes. However, experts say that
it is not easy for Iraq, the country has experienced more than a decade of war,
with a not strong enough military force to overpower terrorist group which is

Children are already the innocent victims bearing the brunt of this war. Traumatised by the brutality of fighting even before the latest bombing, children are also at risk of being injured or killed as these air strikes are scaled up. It is the responsibility of all parties involved to make sure children and other civilians are kept safe.
