Mr. Duterte has to apologize to the Jewish
community for comparing himself as Adolf Hitler and his narcotics crackdown as the
Holocaust in the time of the Nazis.

The
Philippines
President Rodrigo Duterte apologized “profoundly and deeply” to Jewish
community on Sunday, and said his references to the Holocaust while discussing
his war on drugs was to hit back at critics who had likened him to Adolf
Hitler.
“I
would like to make it now, here and now, that there was never an intention on
my part to derogate the memory of the six million Jews murdered,” he said.
“The
reference to me was, I was supposedly Hitler, who killed many people.”
He
added: “I apologize profoundly and deeply to the Jewish community…it was never
my intention, but the problem was I was criticized, using Hitler comparing to
me.”
Mr.
Duterte said that his sorry was only for Jewish community. He also condemned
the West and human rights organizations for expressing concern about his
narcotics crackdown, which has killed 3100 people since Duterte took office
three month ago.
He
said on Friday he had been portrayed by critics as being “a cousin of Hitler”
and said he would “be happy to slaughter” three million Flipino drug users and
peddlers.
His
saying has surprised a lot of people that he had compared the objectives of his
narcotics crackdown as Hitler’s innocent victims.
The
saying has also caused him a big trouble because of bad affects to many
countries and organizations. The German government has condemned Duterte’s
saying “unacceptable” and summoned the Philippines
Ambassador to Germany
to ask about the saying of Mr. Duterte.
“It’s
unacceptable to compare anything to the brutality of the Holocaust.” The
spokesman of Germany Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
Chairman
of the World Jewish spokesman, Ronald Lauder, said the Duteter’s saying was
“frightening” and requested Duterte to withdraw his words and apologize the
Jewish community. “His saying is not only very cruel, but also has shown no
regard for the life of humanity. It’s unacceptable to the selected leader of a
democratic country,” Lauder said.
Deputy
Director of the Human Rights Watch in Asia, Phil Robertson said that he cannot understand there is
someone who can liken himself as “one of the most terrible killer in the
history of humans.”
In
Robertson’s opinion, if Hitler was living now, he would be sentenced the crime
against humanity. And “That’s what Duterte want? He wants to be taken to the
International Criminal Court? He is already on the way.”
Previously,
the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the US had expressed the concern over
Duterte’s saying./.
The Holocaust (also
called Ha-Shoah in
Hebrew) refers to the period from January 30, 1933 - when Adolf
Hitler became chancellor of Germany -
to May 8, 1945, when the war in Europe
officially ended. During this time, Jews in Europe
were subjected to progressively harsher persecution that ultimately led to the
murder of 6,000,000 Jews (1.5 million of these being children) and
the destruction of 5,000 Jewish communities. These deaths represented
two-thirds of European Jewry and one-third of all world Jewry.
The Jews who
died were not casualties of the fighting that ravaged Europe
during World War II. Rather, they were the victims of Germany's deliberate and systematic attempt to
annihilate the entire Jewish population of Europe,
a plan Hitler called
the “Final Solution” (Endlosung).

It was a terribly wrong comparison between his anti-drug campaign and Hitler and the Holocaust
Duterte is a strange politician with a lot of strange saying and ideas
I don't agree with his policy to conduct the anti-drug war in the Philippines
It's unbelievable that more than 3,100 people have been killed since Duterte took office three months ago
the Jewish people must be respected, especially whenever talking about the Holocaust, their most painful in the history
he can't do more than apologize. He has a lot of big mistakes!
I think he is trying to seek understanding for his tough image.
He had vented his frustration at human rights groups and what he called "stupid" lawyers of the European Union.
Duterte wants a new way in the relationship with the US and EU,
Duterte's policies as the President of the Philippines have caused controversy not only in this country, but also all over the world, especially in human rights-related issues.
