National Festive Day taking place nationwide

More than 69 million of Vietnamese voters
across the country will exercise their right to vote in the elections for
deputies of the 14th National Assembly and people councils of
the 2016-2021 term at all levels on May 22nd.
The festive atmosphere was seen from remote,
mountainous hamlets to big cities. Flags, banners, slogans and flowers make
streets, roads, schools, factories, fields and construction sites more
beautiful. Happy faces of voters seen at polling stations promise a good result
of the elections.
The elections for deputies of the 14th National
Assembly and people councils of the 2016-2021 term at all levels take place
after the success of the 12th National Party Congress. All
Vietnamese people have a great, optimistic expectation of the 14th National
Assembly and 2016-2021 people’s councils at all levels. This is the
largest-ever election in the country. Even more significantly, Vietnam holds
the first election under the newly adopted 2013 Constitution with a broader
legal framework for practices of human rights and other citizens’ rights. The
success of the elections will also create a good foundation to consolidate and
perfect the rule-of-law socialist State belonging to the people, built by the
people and serving the people.
In the build-up to the elections, over the
past months, Central agencies, branches, local authorities, political and
social organizations at all levels across the country have conducted
information dissemination campaigns and public education drives on the meaning
of the elections, the rights and obligations of citizens and regulations and
laws on elections for deputies of the National Assembly and people councils at
all levels. The Central Government and local governments at all levels have
prepared polling places and created the most favorable conditions for people to
exercise their rights to nominate, self-nominate and vote in line with the
Vietnamese laws. With the good preparation, the elections for deputies of the
14th National Assembly and people councils of the 2016-2021
term at all levels are taking place in a joyful atmosphere, and are expected to
be successful.
On the big national event, Party committees
and authorities, election committees, and political-social organizations at all
levels continue to educate people on their right to vote, their citizenship and
regulations and laws related to elections for National Assembly and people’s
councils at all levels. Party committees and authorities, election committees,
and political-social organizations keep mobilizing people, assist those in a
difficult state and explain the regulations and laws on the elections and
citizens’ related rights so that all people can exercise their right to vote in
a lawful and quick manner. The National Electoral Council and local election
committees at all levels should continuously and carefully monitor polling
stations to ensure legality, safety and security in all constituencies.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese citizens should well
understand that voting is their right and duty. Voters should go to the polling
places early, study the lists of candidates, consult members of election
committees about the regulations and laws on elections, and exercise their
right to vote lawfully.
On this Election Day, the Vietnam People’s
Army is joining the whole nation in the elections for deputies of the 14th National
Assembly and people councils of the 2016-2021 term at all levels. The Vietnam
People’s Army is defined as an army originating from the people, fighting for
the people’s sake and wholeheartedly serving the people. Military people are
also citizens so they enjoy all the rights and duties of citizens. To
contribute to the success of the elections, all military officers and soldiers
should exercise their right to vote early and lawfully, setting a good example
in localities. They should also collaborate closely with Party committees,
authorities and other forces at all levels to ensure security and safety for
the elections. Military units are ready to deploy their forces to protect
polling stations and voters in case hostile forces conduct activities to
sabotage the elections.
The elections for deputies of the 14th National
Assembly and people councils of the 2016-2021 term at all levels are the
festive day of the whole Party, State, people and army. The elections also
serve as part of Vietnam’s efforts to develop its rule-of-law socialist State.
With the good preparations and efforts of the whole political system and
people, the elections will surely be successful. And Vietnam will have a
competent National Assembly and competent people’s councils at all levels,
which will better serve national development, meeting the Vietnamese people’s
expectation.
