An action month for children themed ‘Enforcing Child Law and Preventing Child Abuse’ was launched in Hanoi on May 27 by the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee.
Speaking at the launch, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh asked ministries, sectors, organisations and local authorities, to disseminate the main contents of the Child Law, and the Prime Minister’s directive on fighting against child abuse, to the public.
She stressed the need to raise awareness and improve the knowledge and skills, , of parents, family members, teachers and those working directly with children, with regards to children protection and child abuse
Children must also be educated on how to protect themselves from acts of violence and abuse, she added.
MOLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung said that this year’s action month for children included communications campaigns to disseminate Child Law, the programme on child protection for the 2016-2020 period, and the decree on defining a safe, healthy and friendly environment for children, plus a campaign to prevent violence in schools.
The ministry will also ordinate with cities and provinces to host forums, seminars and conferences on seeking solutions to prevent and control child abuse and violence, as well as training courses on providing treatment interventions for juvenile victims of abuse, particularly sexually abused children.
At the launch ceremony, National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) presented gifts to children living in challenging circumstances in Hanoi.
