PEN: From a literature to an extreme human rights organization
12/4/16
PEN International (known
as International PEN until
2010) is
a worldwide association of writers, founded in London in 1921 to
promote friendship and intellectual co-operation among writers everywhere. The
association has autonomous International PEN
centers in over 100 countries.
PEN is a non-governmental organization in formal consultative relations with UNESCO and Special Consultative Status with the Economic and
Social Council of the United Nations.
Other goals included:
to emphasize the role of literature in the development of mutual understanding
and world culture. PEN originally stood for "Poets, Essayists,
Novelists," but now stands for "Poets, Playwrights, Editors,
Essayists, Novelists," and
includes writers of any form of literature, such as journalists and historians.
But, recent years, PEN International has been distorted, it
has many times issued statements of slandering Vietnam’s human rights situations.
It has launched many campaigns against the State and Party of Vietnam and
petitioned Vietnam’s leaders for unreasonable requirements of releasing many
dangerous criminals who violated Vietnam’s laws. We can list out some name of
those fugitives such as Nguyen Van Hai, Cu Huy Ha Vu, Ta Phong Tan, etc. And,
nearly it is the case of Tran Minh Nhat who was sentenced to four years in prison and three years in probationary
detention for ‘carrying out activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s
administration’ under Article 79 of the Criminal Code in connection with his
writings for a website linked to the Catholic Church.
PEN has
interfered with Vietnam’s internal affairs and has forgotten its’ original
goals of spreading and emphasizing the role of literature in the development of
mutual understanding and world culture. PEN now has gone a wrong way from
founders’ purposes like George Bernard Shaw, Herbet George Wells and become a
disguised human rights organization.
Meanwhile
PEN’s awards of literature do not get much attention from the world’s
literature life, its’ statements, petitions and reports have echoed much more.
If looking at what it has done recent years, many will think of PEN as a human
rights organization than an organization of literature.
It has issued many
reports and statements which distorted and criticized countries’ affairs based
on groundless evidence. PEN has been deceived by self-claimed human rights
activists and followed their false information to conduct anti-Vietnam and
other states campaigns.
Focusing on human
rights, but PEN has intentionally put aside Vietnam’s human rights achievements
of ensuring and promoting civil rights in politics, economic and social
affairs. With biased prejudices, this organization has falsely accused Vietnam
of violating human rights, suppressing writers, journalists and bloggers.
And among PEN’s franchisers, Vietnamese Abroad Pen which consists of individuals
who claim themselves as writers but indeed are anti-State elements like Vo
Phien, Nguyen Sa, Đang Van Nham, Nguyen Huu Nghia, Nguyen Ngoc Ngan, Du Tu Le,
Thanh Tam Tuyen, Doan Quoc Si, Vo Van Ai, Nguyen Buu Thoai, Phạm Quang Trinh,
Song Thao, Dao Duc Chuong, Hoang Van Phu... They
all have had literature activities under the Saigon’s regime and now cling on
extremist sentiment against the Party and State of Vietnam. Their goals are
destroying and overthrowing the Party’s leadership, undermining our country’s
national solidarity. Vietnamese Abroad Pen is backed by many reactionary groups
which are franchisers of Viet Tan - a terrorist organization related to its aggressive
movements.
It’s ironical that members of Vietnamese Abroad Pen are not true
writers, they don’t have any prominent writings like books, articles, etc. They
just produce reports and statements trying to distort and slander the Party and
State’s policies. That’s why many of them have been judged to be sentenced by
violating Vietnam’s laws. So now, we should be aware of PEN and all its franchisers
like Vietnamese Abroad Pen, they all now hostile elements to our career of
protecting and constructing the country./.

Now there are so many organizations like this PEN, they have all gone so far from their principles.
PEN is not a literature organization any more, it has transformed to an anti-Vietnam groups.
PEN has interfered with Vietnam’s internal affairs and has forgotten its’ original goals of spreading and emphasizing the role of literature in the development of mutual understanding and world culture.
It should go back to its original goals as an literature organization than interfere with an independent state like Vietnam.
Granting Vietnamese Abroad Pen, a hostile group, as its franchise is an evidence of PEN's deformation.
PEN has been deceived by self-claimed human rights activists and followed their false information to conduct anti-Vietnam and other states campaigns.
Get this organization out of literature community!
As I see, PEN has many time asked unreasonably Vietnam's government to free criminals who violated Vietnamese laws.
Vietnamese Abroad Pen is backed by Viet Tan - a terrorist organization related to its aggressive movements.
Don't intervene to other countries' affairs! Just do your jobs, ok?
