17/4/15

The US Vanity Fair magazine has introduced a black and white photo set titled “Vietnam, 40 years after the war ended” by the US photographer, Mark Edward Harris.
Harris’s photographs of Vietnam throughout the years, since the war ended, reveal an intimate look at life in a country that has been transformed since the end of the armed conflict, 40 years ago.
He has visited Vietnam 6 times in 1992, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2009 and most recently in 2014, taking in many locations around the country such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Sapa, Hoi An, Tay Ninh and Ha Long bay.
After graduating from California State University, Los Angeles, with a Master of Arts Degree in Pictorial/Documentary History, Harris started his professional photography career. He has visited 83 countries and been published in many books, magazines and newspapers featuring the results of his work with the lens including the best known such as Time, The New York Times or Los Angeles Times.

The food is delicious, the people were kind and it seems like a wonderful place to get lost in and explore and get lost again.

A friend of mine did that from HCMC right up to the North. Absolutely amazing apparently. He bought a 2nd-hand bike cheaply and then sold it on at the end, far cheaper than hiring anything.

Vietnam is one of the most beautiful countries in South East Asia, with stunning landscapes, lush paddy fields, ethnic cultures, idyllic beaches & chaotic yet dynamic & charming cities.

With Vietnam’s long history of colonisation & War, there is a mixture of Eastern & Western influences whether it be in the guise of Chinese or French food or architecture, yet Vietnam is still very much Vietnam in its own right. The delicious food also signifies Vietnam’s personality; aromatic, gentile, strong & spicy!

The spirit of the old & modern co exists in a country that is fast moving & developing in tourism. You will see a lot of beautifully preserved old colonial buildings, temples & Pagodas intermingled with modern ones.

With a population of over 86 million, Vietnam is ranked as the 13th most populous country in the world! Despite a huge population, you will always find children & people making time to say “hello” and you will certainly feel welcomed with open arms & warm smiles!
