First female NA Chairperson of Vietnam swearing in

 The National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam on March 31st elected Vice Chairwoman of the 13thNational Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan the National Assembly Chairwoman and Head of the National Election Council.

Of all the deputies present at the session, 95.5% (472 votes) agreed to vote Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan the National Assembly Chairwoman. As for the National Election Council, 467 deputies (94.5%) chose her as the head.

100% of the deputies of the National Assembly then ratified the resolution on the election. Accordingly, Vice Chairwoman of the 13th National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has officially become the Chairwoman of the National Assembly and Head of the National Election Council.

At the swearing-in ceremony, the newly-elected National Assembly Chairwoman took an oath before the national flag. She stated, “Before the sacred flag of the nation, the National Assembly, and the whole people and voters nationwide, I vowed to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the People and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. I will make my efforts to best fulfill the missions assigned by the Party, State and People.”

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan holds a master degree in economics. During her course of office, she worked as the Head of the Department of Finance of Ben Tre province; Deputy Minister of Finance; Secretary of Hai Duong provincial Party Committee; Permanent Deputy Minister of Trade; Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. In 2011, she became the Vice Chairwoman of the 13thNational Assembly.

Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has also been a member of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Central Party Committees and a member of the 11th and 12th Politburo.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has become the first-ever female chairperson of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
